Try Another Way State Employees (TAWSE) Taskforce
The Try Another Way State Employees task force (TAWSE) was established in March 1994 under Gubernatorial Executive Order 6-94. The TAWSE mission is to inspire state employees to be more efficient in their work day travel by promoting and facilitating walking, biking, car pooling, van pooling, and using public transportation.
Alternative travel, such as biking or walking, offers many benefits to individuals and to the community by promoting better health, cleaner air, reduced consumption of resources and lower impact on streets and traffic congestion.
The TAWSE website is filled with great information on how to get started on reducing the impact of your workday travel, build a better lifestyle and work BETTER! Check it out at www.tawse.mt.gov. While you're there, be sure to look for your friends on the TAWSE Wall of Fame and read how alternative travel gives them a little more out of life.
TAWSE and Spring Fitness
In concert with the Spring Fitness Program, we would like you to think about walking to work to increase your "steps a day" totals.
What? You live too far away to walk to work? Another approach can be to park your car 1/2 mile or more away from work and walk the rest of the way.
Did you know you can reduce your workday transportation costs by 40% by walking to work just two days a week?
Also, TAWSE wants to encourage you to bicycle or carpool to work. Using any of the above alternate means to get to work entitles you to 1 TAWSE point, for each day that you use alternative travel to get to work. TAWSE points can earn you special TAWSE awards. They do not affect your total Spring Fitness step points or Spring Fitness prizes. You can track your TAWSE points in the special area provided for TAWSE point scores on the Spring Fitness website. Report TAWSE points to your team captain separately from your regular steps-a-day points.
TEAM CAPTAINS - Just record TAWSE points in the TAWSE point section of the Spring Fitness log on the web.
TAWSE encourages you to take this opportunity to "Try Another WAY." Who knows? Maybe you'll find that it enriches your day in ways you hadn't expected. See what your co-workers say about their alternative commuting experience on the TAWSE Wall of Fame!
