Hunting Health Tips

Do you:
- Smoke?
- Have high blood pressure?
- Have high cholesterol?
- Have diabetes?
- Have an inactive lifestyle?
If you answer "Yes" to any of the above and are age 40+ you should have a medical check-up before hunting.
If you are physically fit:
- You can walk faster and farther
- You can avoid exhaustion
- You can stay more focused and alert which helps you avoid accidents
- Your marksmanship is improved.
How? A key to accuracy is breathing control. When you are out of breath, your chest is heaving. If your chest is heaving you cannot keep your firearm steady.
Get in shape. Start an exercise program at least 6 weeks before hunting. This is the minimum time it takes the body to make adaptive changes.
Did you know?
- Slow walking = 100 steps per minute
- Moderate walking = 110 steps per minute
- Fast walking = 125+ steps per minute
- A slow one-hour walk will yield about 6,000 steps
To add steps to your day
- Use the stairs instead of the elevator; it burns almost 5 times more calories than taking the elevator
- Park your car a little further in the parking lot
- As you build your stamina try other activity like light weight lifting, some hill hiking (or using the stairs)
